Department of Municipalities and Transport and Abu Dhabi Housing Authority launch a new field survey campaign to optimise use of government housing units

• The objective of the campaign is to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of vacant and leased units.
• Review and correct the status of government-provided housing units misused for commercial purposes or leased.
• It also seeks to raise awareness among the public on the regulations, requirements, and violations related to housing grants and leasing.

Abu Dhabi, September 24th, 2024: The Department of Municipalities and Transport, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority (ADHA), has launched a new, comprehensive field survey campaign aimed at raising awareness on the conditions of usage of government-provided housing units in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in order to develop sustainable and integrated communities. Additionally, the field survey will review and correct the status of government-provided housing units misused or in violation of occupancy rules and regulations.  

Both organisations are committed to advancing Abu Dhabi’s vision of creating communities that enhance social well-being and promote family cohesion. The initiative aligns with Law No. 8 of 2019 concerning the Regulation of Occupancy of Properties and Residential Units in Abu Dhabi, ensuring compliance with the law while fostering the development of secure, inclusive neighbourhoods.   

As part of the campaign, the ADHA has initiated an awareness campaign, in conjunction with the field survey, to educate the public about the negative consequences of misused government-provided housing units. The campaign also aims to inform homeowners about the regulations, conditions, and violations associated with housing grants. Furthermore, the ADHA will collaborate with community members to resolve these issues that adversely affect the society and the environment, while simultaneously promoting awareness of Abu Dhabi's general appearance and the community’s wellbeing.

The campaign also seeks to Communicate to property owners about the solutions provided by ADHA’s, including maintenance loans and loans for demolition and reconstruction.

Majid Abdulla Al Muhairi, Acting Executive Director of the Housing Benefits Allocation Sector, emphasised the ADHA's dedication to providing suitable housing within inclusive and secure communities for Emirati citizens in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.  “This commitment is tailored to meet the specific needs of citizens and their families, while ensuring adherence to the established terms and conditions for accessing government-provided housing units,” Al Muhairi said.

He highlighted the collective responsibility of society members to maintain the general appearance and wellbeing of the residential communities built by the Authority and report any violations. “This collaborative effort seeks to support official entities in addressing non-compliance with housing regulations. It underscores the importance of adhering to housing terms and conditions to prevent violations and ensure compliance,” he added.

Al Muhairi stated that non-compliant housing units will be given a one-month grace period to resolve the issues. If the violations are not addressed within this time, legal action will follow.

Commenting on launched campaign, Fahad Al Shehhi, the Acting Director of Department Appearance at the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), said, “Our partnership with the ADHA in launching this campaign demonstrates our ongoing commitment to aligning with the Abu Dhabi government’s vision of creating cohesive, sustainable residential communities that enhance quality of life. This initiative is a vital part of the department’s broader efforts to preserve the Emirate’s aesthetic and maintain its overall tranquillity.”

Community members are encouraged to report any violations regarding the use of government housing through the TAMM application.

He affirmed that inspections would continue previously rectified houses to ensure legal compliance occupancy. In case of repeated violations, immediate legal actions and measures will be taken without prior notice.

ADHA has partnered with ‘Saaed’ to support its inspection efforts for government-provided housing units. This collaboration, in coordination with the DMT, aims to enhance the effectiveness of the inspection campaigns across Abu Dhabi.
